Self Managing Leadership (SML)

A Self Development Program for Leaders
UNESCO Centre for International Education (UCIE) is pleased to announce that it will again be organising a 3-day training course on Self Managing Leadership (SML) on 25th, 26th, 27th September 2009 in Hanoi. This course will be given by an international trainer in the English language with translation into Vietnamese.

The original SML course was developed by Brian Bacon, founder and president of the Oxford Leadership Academy, a world class global organization working with large organizations in strategic management. Its purpose was to assist managers to cope better with change and improve their leadership qualities by improving their abilities to manage themselves.

In this present format, SML has moved away from the corporate focus to address the question of inner leadership as the basis of becoming an effective, purposeful and happy individual in whatever profession one finds oneself in. The course is conducted in a retreat context, as an opportunity to reflect on our life and refocus our ‘self’.

The Purpose of SML is to help you to:
Bring more meaning in your life through improved self understanding;
Make a review of your life and determine the direction and action steps you need to take based on a clearer understanding of your personal strengths and weaknesses, values, purpose and aspirations;
Learn and practice the art of internal stability that is at the heart of objective observation, assessment and understanding;
Develop the right mental state required to rightly position themselves in the midst of changing and challenging circumstances, understand situations and behaviours, detect and capture unimagined opportunities;
Develop a thinking style that allows you to be more objective and holistic in your decisions, independent, responsive and optimise your potential.
Unveil the principles that are at work in leadership – those unifying principles that apply to the leadership of organizations, families, individuals and your ‘self’.
Empower your abilities to Observe, Focus, Implement and bridge the gap between what you know you have to do and what you are actually doing.

Schedule: three full days on 25th, 26th, 27th September 2009 (Friday to Sunday from 8:30 to 17:00)
Location: at UCIE at B1-2, To 122 Hoang Cau, Dong Da, Hanoi.

Although UCIE is entirely self funded, we are a service oriented organization committed to individual and social change and wish to remove, as much as they can, the barriers that prevent learning.
