About the role

The Compliance & Contracts Partner - Asia will contribute to the achievement of The Fred Hollows Foundation's contract and compliance objectives in each of country in our Asia Hub, being Bangladesh, Nepal, China, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Hong Kong. Working collaboratively with our Compliance & Contracts Partners in Africa and in Australia, you will develop, implement and monitor processes and policies for our overarching compliance and contracts framework, including drafting and reviewing contracts and providing legal advice as required.

Key responsibilities & outcomes

  • To consider the implications of contractual, legislative and regulatory requirements in the Asia Hub and undertake compliance monitoring procedures as necessary to ensure the fulfilment of these compliance requirements for all country offices in the Asia Hub.

  • Acting as The Foundation’s Safeguarding People Focal Point and potentially its Privacy Focal Point in the Asia Hub

  • Documentation and dissemination of procedures to promote contractual, legislative and regulatory compliance

  • Assess the impact of legislative changes to the business, and ensure the business units are fully informed

  • Support the development and maintenance of The Foundation’s risk framework, contracts management, policies, processes and culture to empower and skill our people to proactively identify, disclose and manage risk to enable stronger overall performance and compliance

  • To monitor compliance with our international legal and policy obligations, as well as the satisfaction of contractual terms and renewals

  • Provide effective and timely legal advice to the business as requested, being cognisant of the not for profit international development sector and The Foundation’s context and reputation

About You

  • A qualified lawyer with at least three years’ experience working as a lawyer, in either private practice or in-house, ideally across counties and within a global organisation

  • Interest in developing and implementing compliance frameworks

  • Experience drafting contracts and in effective contract management

  • Ability to work inclusively to influence and communicate legal and compliance concepts clearly and simply

  • Fluent in written and spoken English

  • Understanding of local customs and language within one or more of our Asia Hub countries

The nice to haves!

  • Knowledge of regulatory framework for charities and not-for-profits in one or more countries, as well as DFAT / DFID / ACFID Code of Practice or local equivalent is desirable

  • Experience working in international development organisations

  • Basic understanding of eye health

  • Strong eye for detail and willingness to learn
