Inequality Campaign Lead Asia

We are looking for a Inequality Campaign Lead Asia - National position for a period of two years

Purpose of the Position

Develops and coordinates Oxfam’s inequality advocacy and campaigning in the region with national and global teams in line with the WIN transformational goals and the regional vision and strategy.

Main Tasks

  • Campaign leadership and delivery
    • Develop, manage and coordinate the delivery of the Asia Even it Up campaign strategy.  Ensure that the campaign supports gender equality. Identify regional and global campaign opportunities, and ensure collaboration with country teams, Oxfam affiliates and global counterparts in the campaign implementation.
    • Work with other CPT members as well as regional thematic leads/groups and country teams to design the Even it Up campaign and ensure that this fits with the One Programme approach.
    • Work with Oxfam affiliates and Oxfam International counterparts throughout the different stages of campaign design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, as well as fundraising.
  • Technical campaign and influencing support
    • Work with and build the capacity of country teams, provide support and advice on advocacy and campaign strategies and tactics. This includes support for power analyses, policy advocacy and campaign strategy.
    • Brief senior staff on inequality and related issues at country and regional level and act as media spokesperson as needed.
  • Partnership and alliance building
    • Build alliances, and manage relationships with partners, providing them with technical and advisory campaign support as well as linkages with the global level.
    • Develop and manage relationships with a diverse range of influential actors.
    • Lobby actively external targets in line with the objectives of the campaign and represent Oxfam to communicate Oxfam’s views to a wide range of actors, including governments, regional institutions, civil society organisations and media.
    • External representation and collaboration with civil society organizations, governments, opinion-formers, policy experts, academics as related to Oxfam policy agenda to tackle inequality.
    • Build strategic relationships with key donors, trusts and foundations that go beyond funding and include influencing on the issue of inequality itself. Coordinate with Oxfam affiliates and country teams on multi-country fundraising proposals that support the development and delivery of the Even it Up campaign in the Asia region.
  • Management and programme quality
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Even it Up campaign, share learning, and help create an environment for innovation.
    • Manage and coordinate fixed-term staff and/or consultants.
    • Build the capacity of national and regional organisations to engage with policy-making processes on food and climate through managing grant allocations to partners and facilitating their access to OI campaigns and policy resources.

Job Requirements

Essential   

  • Solid understanding and work experience in some but not limited to the following: inequality causes and trends, aid quantity and quality, taxation, budgets and public expenditure, public services (esp. health and education), labor rights and wages.
  • A strong strategist – proven ability to develop and deliver effective advocacy and campaigning strategies. At least 5 years of experience in designing, managing, coordinating and implementing advocacy and campaigns.
  • A strong self-starter. Exercises a high degree of independent judgement and problem solving.
  • Well-developed leadership and relationship building skills to empower and motivate others. Ability to lead complex projects involving people from several areas of the organisation and from other organisations.
  • Experience of working across different cultures to provide advice to staff and partners, and to support advocacy and campaigning strategies.
  • Ability to represent the campaign to a variety of audiences, from donor staff, senior officials to public meetings.
  • Strong interpersonal and people management skills, including negotiation and self awareness.
  • Excellent communication skills with excellent spoken English and ability to write effective campaign materials.
  • Experience in the use of media and popular communications.
  • Experience of writing successful multi-country donor proposals.
  • Clear commitment to Oxfam’s mission to fight for social justice, including demonstrable understanding, experience of, and commitment to gender and diversity issues.
  • Ability to work under pressure, including some unsocial hours and to travel for significant amounts of time.
