Project Officers

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. As a federally owned enterprise, we support the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.

In Viet Nam, we have been working with our partners since 1993. We contribute to the improvement of living conditions for Vietnamese people via approximately 20 programmes and projects  covering the following three priority areas of cooperation: 1) Sustainable Economic Development and Vocational Training; 2) Environmental Policy, Natural Resources and Urban Development; and 3) Health.

Vietnam was identified by the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as one of the countries to be most affected by climate change. In particular the deltas of Mekong and the Red River are at risk.

In the province of Ca Mau, the rapid and vast expansion of shrimp ponds has led to the deterioration of costal forests and to a substantial reduction in biodiversity. The effects of climate change are increasingly visible and economic activity has lowered the resilience of the costal ecosystems and reduced their capacity to adapt to the effects of climate change.
A major challenge will be to strengthen planning procedures of the public administration at various governmental levels to ensure high performance of adaptation services and investments to meet national climate change (costal zone management) policies and specific local requirements and demnads.

The GIZ project “Integrating Climate Change Adaptation into Planning for Costal Area Management in Ca Mau Province” will work specifically to improve the systematic integration of adaptation measures into provincial planning procedures and closely cooperate with other provinces in the Mekong Delta as a component of a new program, Integrated Coastal Management Program (ICMP)/ Climate Change in Coastal Ecosystems Program (CCCEP) which is jointly funded by the Australian and German Governments and implemented by GIZ. This program will operate in five provinces and at national level. Components and subject areas form a program that is relevant throughout the Mekong Delta and combine to assist in the development and implementation of a functional strategic policy and legal framework and a new model of cooperative management between the five Lower Mekong Provinces.

GIZ is seeking qualified and experienced Vietnamese nationals for the full-time positions of:
