Research Manager

VIETSURVEY Research and Analysis (http://vietsurvery.vn) is one of the very few leading research and survey companies in Vietnam where scientific and rigorous research and survey methodologies are strictly observed and followed. VietSurvey is officially split from The Development and Policies Research Center in June 2011 with an aim to be a leading research and survey company in the region. They inherit the strong rigorous history, experience of DEPOCEN and effective management and participation of leading specialists in the related field. Their key expertise and areas of research include a wide range of issues from social and economic policies, public administration reform, governance and competitiveness, system and capacity building, business and investment environment, econometric modelling and forecasting, experts provision and training. The social interests related to gender equity, poverty reduction, public economics are covered by their focus services.

They are seeking qualified candidates for the following position: Research Manager in Hanoi

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the summary tasks as follows:
- Strategic inputs for development and management of research team and the company;
- Development and leading of research proposals for various potential clients in Vietnam and the region (Government, INGO, private sector);
- Coordination and delivery of agreed plans and projects as project team leader;
- Management of consultants and staff effectively in all aspects of work;
- Representation in meetings, workshops and external relationships in Vietnam and the region;
- Active engagement with relevant strategic actors and networking with partners and actors in Vietnam and the region;
- Impacts within their own team and also in other units and/or external public;
- Often working as part of a management team within company;
- Provision of specialist advice or specific skills (training) to team members;
- Plans/objectives contributed to research team strategy and collaboration with other units;
- Ability to analyse and communicate complex information to a wide audience in Vietnam and the region;
- Decision-making with significant levels of judgement based on technical and management experience, generally actively supported within line management or the research team members;
- Active role in lobby and advocacy on issues related to programs/projects through personal contacts and coordination of members;
- Involvement in public campaigns based on agreed plan of action and objectives;
- Production of clear and quality reports (monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual planning, financial and narrative) that demonstrate good accountability.
- Other activities: candidates are encouraged to participate in the organisation's activities such as training series, Policy dialogues and economic conferences.

Qualification and Skills required:

1. Job Specific Competencies
- Understanding of household economics, behavioral economics, business and market development experience including; value chains, microeconomic/sector development, business development services, business plan development, product marketing, sectoral analysis etc;
- Openness and willingness to promote gender equality and demonstrating basic competencies to promote gender equality;
- At least 6 years of working experience (Oversea working experience advantaged);
- Master qualifications and clearly demonstrated expertise in a relevant area (Oversea Master degree preferred);
- Development and private sector/business experience;
- Designing and management of development and private sector projects;
- Leadership and line management of staff;
- Partnership and alliance building including designing and delivery of collaborative projects;
- Reporting and communicating outcomes to a range of audiences;
- Experience with an international development organization or consultancy;
- Experience in management in a cross-cultural team context ;
- Work experience in remote or difficult areas and with poor rural communities.

Compensation:
Annual Salary: US$12,000++
Annual Bonus: 13rd month salary++
