Bomb Cellar Discovered at Lao Bao Border Gate

A cellar containing 159 bombs and mortar shells has been discovered by sappers at the Vietnam-Laos international border gate of Lao Bao in the central province of Quang Tri. The cellar was detected on Sunday by sappers of the Corps No. 12 while they were detecting mines and explosives to prepare for the construction of the facilities for the expanded Lao Bao border gate. The cellar is located at a depth of 2.5 m. It contains 159 bombs, mines and shells of all types, including 33 130-mm mortar shells, three 175 mm mortar shells, 70 M79 shells and 50 bomblets. The explosives have been moved to safe ground and will be defused. Sappers are still working at the site. (VietNamNet Oct 7)
