EU Grants EUR2.5M for Vietnam Shrimp Value Chain Development

The International Collaborating Centre for Aquaculture and Fisheries Sustainability (ICAFIS) under Vietnam Fisheries Society (VINAFISH) and Oxfam and other partners on May 24 started a 2.5 EUR million project named “Developing Sustainable Value Chain Production of Shrimp in Vietnam” funded by the European Union. The project aims to promote economy and reduce poverty sustainably in Vietnam by minimizing unwanted affection of shrimp cultivation and related works. Mr. Alejandro Montalban from the EU Delegation to Vietnam said the project will help effectively use natural resources, responsible production and value chain, and improve social and environment conditions. The project will help seeking solutions for helping shrimp farmers and small and medium processors get access to financial resources, especially promote incentive lendi ng policies, and have higher voice in trade negotiations, he said. The project will be carried out from March 2016 until February 2020 in three Mekong Delta provinces of Soc Trang, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau. The results of the project on sustainable shrimp cultivation will be shared in other Vietnamese localities. (Nong Nghiep Viet Nam – Vietnam Agriculture May 25)
