Massive Fish Death Reported in Vietnam Central Coast

State media has reported that massive fish deaths have been recorded along the coastline in Vietnam’s central province of Khanh Hoa over the weekend, leaving dumps onshore equality to more than 10 tons in total. The incident was reported from Nov 24 to Nov 26 with dead bodies of various kinds, mostly in the hypolimnion of the sea, according to the Radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV). Vo Hoang Hai, head of Van Ninh’s Party Committee, attributed the situation to red algea or Rhodophyta. Local authorities have cooperated with the provincial agencies to examine the samples, he said, adding that the massive fish death has no longer continued. Massive fish death has triggered concerns over environmental pollution after a number of cases relating to toxic substances released into the sea and caused fish death on a large scale. The incidence happened seven months after massive fish death found in Vietnam’s central coast from Ha Tinh to Quang Binh provinces after Taiwan-invested Formosa Group released hazardous waste into the sea.
