New Country Director of HELVETAS Vietnam

This is to inform that Dr. Pham Van Luong will be the new Country Director of HELVETAS Vietnam from 1st of October 2017. Dr. Luong joined HELVETAS in 2000 and assumed various positions in the course of the years: He started as Training Officer in agriculture & forestry projects, then became Project Manager of the SDC mandated PS-ARD program in 2008 and then accomplished his PhD at the University of Queensland in 2014 on the sustainability of small-scale farming systems in  Vietnam. Since 2016, he has been Project Manager of the IFAD funded project, namely Regional Value Chain Capacity Building Network operating in 7 Asian countries. With this strong background, Dr. Luong will lead and further develop the HELVETAS Vietnam country programme that has a strong focus on inclusive economic development. The departing Country Director Mrs. Nguyen Lam Giang will assume the CEO position of the local organisation Center for Rural Economy Development (CRED) based in Hanoi. CRED is an in-country off shoot of HELVETAS, which works on rural economic development across Vietnam and Mekong region focusing on Climate change, Water, Environment, and development of existing and emerging agricultural markets and value chains, ensuring greater inclusion of the poor and marginalised groups in agricultural development as well as providing off-farm opportunities for communities and households as well as the strengthening of community livelihoods.
