U.S. Pledges to Help Vietnam Join Global Supply Chain: General Consul

During the Vietnam-US trade interaction after 2016 conference in HCMC on Dec. 20, General Consul Mary Tarnowka lauded Vietnam’s reform process and favorable conditions created for U.S. companies to invest in the Southeast Asian country, state media reported. Ms. Mary noted that the U.S. will help Vietnam join the global supply chain and U.S. firms are advancing their interest in investing in infrastructure, energy, aviation, and development of smart cities. The U.S. firms also want to partner with Vietnamese counterparts in order to boost farm produce exports to the U.S. market, tighten cooperation in education and tourism and people-to-people connection. Trade between Vietnam and the U.S. has witnessed an annual growth of roughly 20% in recent years and currently the U.S. is Vietnam’s biggest trade partner. The two-way trade hit $41.26bn last year, much higher than $8.81 billion in 2006, according Vietnam Customs.
