Vietnam Gov’t Approves USAID-funded Health Project

The Vietnamese government has approved the sub-programs in the “Risk Mitigation and Management of Human Health Threats along Animal Value Chains” projects which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Food And Agriculture Organization (FAO). The project aims to mitigate and control risks on human health from diseases that can transmit from animals through interaction between human, animals, and the environment. The ultimate goal is to diminish risk of epidemic in Vietnam. The project will boost the cooperation between Vietnamese agencies in implementing United Nation’s One Health idea as well as lessening the risks along food value chain. Meanwhile, the project will also enhance the monitoring capability, early detection and react with birds’ flu and other dangerous diseases that can harm human. Several cross-borders actions will also be advocated to reduce the risk of disease transmitting. The 12-month project will have a total budget of $2.1 million, which consists of 100% of non-refundable aid and some additional reciprocal funds in kind. (Baochinhphu.vn July 27)
