Dear Martin,
Thanks for the support to discuss among your organizations and reply us for the
issue.
If it just is a matter of the proposed time not fitting your schedule, we can
rearrange it. Tentative discussion with my colleagues in other sites and with
Hung has suggested another date of June 26, Friday, 14:00-17:00 (Hanoi time).
Please talk with JANI team and let me know your final arrangement.
I think donors of JANI and of other CBDRM projects implementing by our DMWG
members will also be interested in this seminar. We would like to extend
invitation to them to the event, can you forward their email contacts?
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
All the bests,
Kim Ngan

Dear Kim Ngan,

We would like to get back to you in regard to the request put out to CARE to
chair the next session on CBDRM of the World Bank “Global Distance Learning
Network (GDLN). According to our telephone conversation yesterday, the upcoming
session is now scheduled for Friday, the 29th May and the World Bank would
welcome CARE Vietnam to chair the event on behalf of JANI and probably the
broader NGO community (represented in the DMWG).

Even though we are certainly very interested in the event we are not in the
position to chair the next session or to present the JANI project and key CBDRM
concepts. As already briefly outlined on the phone, we are facing an extremely
busy month and have to accommodate for two donor monitoring missions, one of
which has been scheduled for the last week of May. Therefore, numerous CARE
staff from the Disaster Management Team will be held up in the provinces where
we work and will hence not be available for preparation or even presentation on
the particular day.

Given the above time constraints CARE is facing this month, we requested other
JANI partners to fill in for CARE. Unfortunately, we have been turned down by
all agencies we have approached so far. We hope that you will be able to find
another actor to represent the wealth of knowledge and experienced that has been
gained by the civil society on community based disaster risk management
approaches.

We sincerely regret to inform you that we are currently not in the position to
satisfy your demands and request to chair the session mainly due to above cited
time constraints.

Best wishes

Marten

Subject: [dmwg] Global Distance Learning Network (GDLN) Seminar: nextsession on
CBDRM

Dear all,
As you may know that the WB facilitates the GDLN series of DRM seminar, in Viet
Nam it is through VDIC. Two sessions on disaster recovery planning and risk
financing were held in December 2008 and February 2009 which were participated
by some members of DMWG and government agencies. The next session is planned to
be held in late May 2009 and to focus on CBDRM. Given good experience and
achievements on CBDRM in Viet Nam, the GDLN proposes Viet Nam to take lead in
this event through delivering presentations and chairmanship for the session.

I think it is good if Viet Nam takes the role and does it under DMWG. It will be
a good opportunity for DMWG to show up to other countries in the region about
our works and our partnership. The event will be a 3 hour video conference
connecting 6 or 7 countries in East Asia and the Pacific region, with 3
presentations (20' of each), Q&A and panel discussion. For a charimanship of the
event, Viet Nam is expected to have 2 presentations, with one from the GoV on
the national CBDRM program, while the other would be by the chair, which should
give a general overview of what CBDRM is, why it's important, what are the
benefits and challenges of the approach... Members of DMWG are expected to
attend as many as possible the event to share your knowledge and experience in
the panel discussion.

I would like to suggest JANI's representative would be the chair and NDMP to
support the Government's presentation on the new CBDRM program outline. For more
details of actions, we will discuss in the next DMWG's meeting in April. Ugo
please help to add it into the meeting agenda.
If you have any query or want to discuss smt on the issue, feel free to contact
me. Thanks and best regards,
Kim Ngan
