Dear all,

I would like to update the information about the event conducted by Save the Children in cooperation with the Women' Union in Dong Thap, under JANI,

With great support of the local government, the women's Union, CARE international, WHO, DMC, and education sector, we have successfully organized a big event of the International Disaster reduction day, on 11 October 2012, this event was within the series of events to support the UN call for International disaster reduction day, with the theme: "Women and girls, the in-visible force of resilience".

The event was organized largely with participation of about 500 people from Mekong province Dong Thap and representatives of DMC central and many related departments of the province such as Health, Education, Red Cross and of course the Women's Union. The leaders of the province attended, the vice chairwomen of the Provincial People's Committee have made a good speech, emphasizing the need of working together to prepare for disaster, in the context of climate change impacts in Mekong region and she remarks the important roles on Women and girls in disaster risk reduction.

Great number of people joined in the street walk in the city, with banners showing the support for disaster risk reduction and the positive participation of women and girls in this important task
