[dmwg] Typhoon HAIYAN - DMWG Urgent Meeting next Monday (14.30-16.00) and Activating JAT team

Dear DMWG Colleagues,

The Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS) has issued RED Tropical Cyclone alert for HAIYAN-13 in Philippines, Vietnam and Laos. It's very likely that the typhoon will continue its intensity and heading to Vietnam. Forecasting sources estimate that Haiyan typhoon may make landfall to Central provinces of Vietnam from morning to noon time on Sunday (Nov 10).

I would request our actions as below:


1.       DMWG/UN/PACCOM Urgent Meeting at Oxfam office (22 Le Dai Hanh, Hanoi) at 14.30-16.00, Monday 11 November (to be re-confirmed on Monday AM) to review situation and discuss our coordinated response actions.

2.       Activate DMWG Joint Assessment Team (JAT): JAT members will be contacted early next week to participate in joint rapid needs assessment as collectively decided by DMWG/UN/PACCOM.

3.       Information sharing and response coordination: to be facilitated by DMWG Representative, PACCOM focal point, NGO RC Working Groups Coordinator, and UN focal point(s) as appropriate.

We shall confirm again on the Urgent Meeting time and venue by Monday morning (by 12.00 AM), depending on the typhoon situation.
