Good afternoon,

 

As we recently commemorated One Year On after Cyclone Nargis, it is an
appropriate time to reflect on the achievements and learning of the
Disaster Response & Resilience Learning Project, an inter-agency
initiative developed by Save the Children in Myanmar as part of the
emergency response.

 

Interest in the project activities (grouped under the title: Disaster
Preparedness Program) has exceeded the expectations of project staff and
motivation is high as a result of the positive feedback and evaluations.
Although the program is addressing a large gap in the capacity building
and professional development of national staff working on the Nargis
response, the scope of the current funded project will unfortunately not
meet the existing staff learning needs across the humanitarian sector in
Myanmar.  It is hoped that the distribution of the attached case study
will initiate discussions around possible partnership or funding
opportunities, and also inform other capacity building and staff
learning initiatives in emergency contexts.

 

Please share the case study with your staff, colleagues and networks,
and feel free to contact me if you have questions, feedback or
recommendations. Also, please let me know if you would like to receive a
copy of the case study in Burmese.
