Dear All

 

A brief informal update on preparations for Vietnam's participation in the
Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva (16-19th June, 2009):

 

*	A delegation from Vietnam will attend and arrangements are currently
being made to ensure the necessary financial support
*	No decision has yet been made as to whether or not the Prime
Minister or Deputy Prime Minister will attend. It is hoped this will be
decided next week.
*	The delegation is expected to include Vice Minister Hoc of MARD as
well as other Government staff from relevant departments and 2
representatives from UN in Vietnam
*	If the PM or DPM do not attend, it is expected that Vice Minister
Hoc, as head of the delegation will still deliver a speech on behalf of
Vietnam at the High-level Panel on "Reducing Disaster Risk in a Changing
Climate" along with attending other events.
*	A booth at the 'Market Place' has been allocated to Vietnam
(Government and One UN together)
