[dmwg] DMWG 2010 Workshop - Good work, good show and many thanks

Dear DMWG members and attendees of the 2010 preparedness workshop,

 

As the coordinating agency, the representatives from CARE would like to
express many thanks to all those who took part in 2010 preparedness workshop
this Monday and Tuesday (July 5 & 6).  It was your contribution, both as
attendees and facilitators, which ensured its success.  The participation
for this event was quite remarkable!  All core members of the working group
were present as well as Handicap International (Belgium).  We were also
fortunate that PACCOM and DMC chose to participate.  This shows a strong
partnership between INGOs, NGOs and government as we move forward in to this
disaster season in 2010.

 

One of our objectives was to review the contingency plan and joint
assessment through practical exercises.  The proceedings were held in
Vietnamese language but there was often a cross-over with English.
Non-verbal communication and practical exercises helped to include everyone
in learning more about role and functions of the working group as well as
government and community groups for disaster response in Vietnam.  Judging
by the chatter of various voices at times, then the attentive silence bar
one voice at other times, as well as the occasional outburst of laughter ---
it was clear that it was both interesting, engaging, a little serious but a
bit fun too!  

 

Once again a big thank you to the UN-PCG for funding this event, some might
say that it was money well spent!  Just a few side notes, we've got some
good photos which will be made available soon with the workshop report
(including participant feedback/evaluation) --- hats off to Ninh and the
Plan International team for their hard work on this.  Also, thanks to Thuy
and Hoa from Habitat for Humanity for organising us during the event and the
social gathering that followed.  It was relaxed and friendly --- the right
atmosphere to get to know each other a little better.
