Dear Colleagues,

On 19 August 2010, we are celebrating the second World Humanitarian Day. The theme of this year is "I am a humanitarian aid workers".

We would like to seek for your support to promote the messages to the general public about what it is that humanitarian aid workers do. Kindly find from the link http://ochaonline.un.org/whd  the general information materials about the World Humanitarian Day (WHD), which includes:

(i)                   Brief background of WHD and key humanitarian principles;

(ii)                 A very very inspiring film about WHD, especially decicates to all the humanitarian aid workers;

(iii)                Supporting materials: Leaflet; Q&A prepared to the public and the Press; Key messages of WHD; and fact sheet of security trend over the world

In New York, the Secretary General will lead a modest commemoration of the Day to which the diplomatic corps, the press, the UN and humanitarian organisations will be invited, and at which we will remember those whose lives have been lost or injured in the course of the duty. The 2010 World Humanitarian Day Film will also be showed in the event.

In Vietnam, for decades, many humanitarian workers like you have been working together on Humanitarian Responses and Disaster Risk Reduction. We are also collectively commit to enhance the coodination, preparedness, awareness raising, policy advocacy at different levels in humanitarian works. We hope once you open up the film, you may find how familiar it is with what you have been doing and how similar we are in pursuing your commitments to humanitarian and development works in different parts of Vietnam.
