[general_devel] Commercial adverstising on mailing lists

Dear MFWG person and groups,
I do slip up occasionally. Sorry if that occurs. The Opportunities (Jobs)
list alone collects at least a 20 spam message each day, some disguised
as NGO-related. Opportunties is moderated. All other lists require
approval of posting by non-members. This resolves most problems in advance.
Sometimes it is difficult to determine whether a message is NGO-related
or purely for profit. Or whether a commercial message is of sufficient
benefit to NGOs that it should be allowed on lists.
I do have a limited skill with Vietnamese as a second language, so I may
pass through items because of my ignorance. It would be wonderful if there
were more native speaking volunteers to moderate lists.
It is great to see that uch more material is circulating on lists in
Vietnamese than a year ago. So greater Vietnamese national involvement can only
further this positive trend.
Your help is needed in reviewing postings, supporting working group activities
and also in selecting important news in the Vietnamese language press.
[For example, a volunteer health specialist is needed to review Vietnamese
language materials for evidence of infectious disease outbreaks which are
not covered in the English language press -- this information feeds into
regional networks which help epidemiologists track new health threats.]
So, I am sorry if I am making some mistakes along the way, though I do
hope that you are getting the kind of information you think is appropriate.
I wish I could do more. But in reality, a few more reliable faces on the
Net would make a world of difference.
Do let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks to all of those who
have offered advice - it is most appreciated.
All the best, Vern
