Dear DRR and Climate Change Working Group Members

 

Greetings from National Hydro-Meterological Services of Vietnam. 

 

 

The National Hydro-Meteorological Services is convening the Third Seasonal
Climate Forum on 28th May 2010 in ___________. The Seasonal Climate Forum is
a multi-stakeholder institutional mechanism that aims to foster a constant
dialogue between NHMS and the users of its forecast products and services on
regular basis (i.e. before and after the monsoon period). 

 

The objectives of the Seasonal Climate Forum are to: 

1. Ensure that weather, extreme events and climate forecast products,
including their uncertainties and limitations, are understood by and
communicated to users on a regular basis

2. Provide a platform for inter-agency coordination of policies and programs
for dealing with potential impacts of climate-related hazards on seasonal
basis

3. Encourage forecast applications for mitigating risks in various
climate-sensitive sectors; 

4. Provide a platform for understanding risks posed by/opportunities brought
about by past, current, and future climate 

5. Forum to facilitate the integration of tsunami warning into the existing
early warning system (multi-hazard framework) in the country and also to
establish synergy between various ongoing initiatives.

 

As on date two Seasonal Climate Forums have been held in Vietnam and the
forum has provided an excellent platform to discuss on the above objectives
and particularly on feedback from the user agencies on their NHMS forecast
product and requirements. Based on the recommendation from the forum
memebers, NHMS would like to extend its invitation to interested NGO's and
International Agencies working in Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate
Change. 

 

The Seasonal Climate Forum activity is jointly organized by National
Hydro-Meteorological Services (NHMS) and Asian Disaster Preparedness Center
(ADPC) under the regional project Facilitating the Integration of Tsunami
Warning by Strengthening Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems in Sri Lanka,
Viet Nam, Indonesia and the Philippines supported by American Red Cross.

Language: Vietnamese and English (with translation)
