Dear All,

Please find attached the information of GERES carbon finance training in Cambodia in September. The training will provide conceptual and practical understanding of the forces causing

climate change, the global legal and institutional framework that is currently in place to address climate change, mechanisms to deal with climate change, and the dynamics of

opportunities arising from carbon markets. In particular, the training will detail the processes and challenges involved in obtaining carbon finance for emissions reduction projects, with a strong focus on projects in developing countries that not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but make tangible contributions to sustainable development as well.

Please note that the training registration deadline will be 14 August.

Regards,

Yen

Hi,

Please find attached the schedule for a carbon finance training session in Phnom Penh end of September.

Enerteam has a work shop on Tuesday August 18th that they have invited us to participate in (agenda attached). The work shop is a review of energy savings program Enerteam has done. Ministry of Trade will be there to talk about ‘The status, policies, development program on Energy Savings in Viet Nam’. The Enertem project seems to focus on energy savings in small enterprises.

As you can see below GERES has time to meet with us on Thursday that same week.

Let me know when you have a minute to talk about this.

Cheers,

Mathilde

Dear Mr. Minh Cuong Lequan,

As you know I contacted Ms. Marion last week and have an appointment to talk with her on the phone this week about Nexus Carbon 4 Development.

As Care is in the process of identifying project opportunities for small scale pro-poor energy projects in northern Vietnam (see email below) and you have a great deal of experience in this field of project development I would greatly appreciate if you can find the time to meet with me to share information on this topic. I will be at a work shop with Enerteam in HCMC from Monday – Tuesday August 17-18th and would appreciate if you have time to meet with me in Phnom Penh on Thursday August 20th.

I am interested in learning about business models for these types of projects, technologies employed, project obstacles, projects outcomes, adoption rates, monitoring, consumer surveys, etc.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Mathilde

Dear Marion Verles,

CARE international in Vietnam is in the process of investigating concrete project opportunities within the rural energy sector and I will be conducting a study to investigate these opportunities.

The purpose of the study is to identify opportunities for small scale energy projects that will benefit the rural poor and the opportunities to finance such projects through CDM. Energy mitigation projects may focus on household cooking or electrical requirements or community level requirements for small industries such as brick making, sugar cane processing, fish smoking etc which are managed locally. Firstly we will make a review of existing rural energy projects including researching technologies in order to better understand their strengths and weaknesses. Secondly we will conduct an in depth field study to understand the rural populations current energy uses and energy demand to identify the future needs.

I would very much like to meet with you to learn more about your work in this area including the Nexus Carbon 4 Development initiative and discuss any future potential collaboration opportunities.

It is my hope that you will be available for a discussion on Thursday August 20 as I will be in HCMC in the beginning of that week. The discussion will take place at a, for you, convenient place, e.g. your office and will last for approximately 1-2 hours.

We will contact you soon by phone to set up the appointment at your convenience. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Do Thi Kim Chung at chung.dtk at care.org.vn or Ms. Mathilde Brix at mbrix at care.org.vn Tel: +84 (4) 716 1930

Best regards,
