Hanoi: Arrests over the discovery of frozen tigers
On October 20th, 2009 Police arrested five people who had been found transporting a frozen adult tiger and a juvenile tiger, weighing a total of 129 kg in Thanh Tri District .The tigers were from Thanh Hoa province and were destined for Hanoi.

Hai Phong: Illegal shipment of pangolins confiscated
On October 19th, 2009 the Hai Phong Environmental Police seized and confiscated an illegal shipment of over 200kg of pangolins originally from central Vietnam that was reportedly headed to a northern province in Hai Phong.

Hanoi: King cobras rescued

On October 20th, 2009 the National Environmental Police, in cooperation with Police from Thuong Tin district, confiscated four king cobras (Ophiophagus hannah) that were being transported illegally in the Thuong Tin district of Hanoi. The cobras are now being safely housed at the Soc Son Wildlife Rescue Centre.

Ho Chi Minh: Wildlife seized and transferred to rescue centre 

On October 16th, 2009 in Hoc Mon District, the Ho Chi Minh Forest Protection Department (FPD) discovered a shipment of 10 pangolins, 15 civets and 34kg of snakes that were later confiscated and transferred to the Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Centre.

Quang Ngai - Lam Dong: Wildlife released 

On October 19th, 2009 the FPD in the Nghia Hanh district of Quang Ngai released a douc langur turned over by a local resident into the forest. Meanwhile, in Lam Dong, sixteen wild animals confiscated from a resident's house were also released back into the wild.

Wine jars of cobra skins confiscated and incinerated

On October 23th, 2009 the FPD in Ngan Son District of Bac Kan province incinerated four wine jars of four cobra skins that had been illegally keeping at a restaurant. The information about the crime was initially reported to ENV Wildlife Crime Hotline. The owner of the restaurant was fined over one million VND. 

 

Retraction: error in last week's bulletin 
Please accept our apologies for the error in last week's bulletin (Weekly Bulletin 336). Please note that the Hau Giang confiscation did not include a gibbon or porcupine as initially reported. The gibbon apparently died prior to the confiscation. Only a sun bear and two macaques were confiscated from the Hoa Ha petrol station and transferred to the Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Centre.
