Dong Nai: Resident voluntarily hands over wildlife
Last week a resident in Bien Hoa City voluntarily handed over two yellow-cheeked gibbons (Hylobates gabriellae) to the Bien Hoa District Forest Protection Department after its campaign to raise awareness amongst residents about wildlife protection. On December 22nd, the two yellow-cheeked gibbons (Hylobates gabriellae) were transferred to the Rescue Center at Cat Tien National Park.
Quang Binh: Lieutenant dies after stopping logger's car
Loggers have been attacking rangers and border guards after being caught exploiting or transporting wood from forests illegally. In the recent spate of attacks, on December 17th, a lieutenant at the border post of the Cha Lo International Border Gate was killed when he and his colleague tried to stop a car carrying an illegal stash of wood at Dan Hoa commune in Minh Hoa district.

Binh Dinh: Person discovered illegally transporting coral
On December 21th, Binh Dinh Environmental Police teamed up with Quy Nhon Traffic Police and discovered a man carrying over ten tons of coral illegally at Ghenh Rang ward in Quy Nhon City.

Quang Nam: Defendants sentenced to over 20 years' imprisonment for illegally exploiting wood
On December 18th, Quang Nam People's Court sentenced nine defendants from 15 months to 5 years in prison and fined them a total of over 1 billion VND for seriously damaging the Khe Dien Forest.

Bac Kan: Forest guard helps loggers
The Lung Toong Primeval Forest in Cho Moi district has been exploited by loggers for a long time. It has been discovered recently that illegal loggers are free to exploit rare timber in the forest as they are supported by residents who are responsible for protecting the forest.
