Vietnam recorded an economic loss of nearly VND14.8 billion ($616,666) due to natural disasters in January, down 76.2% y/y, according to the latest data from the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Last month, the natural disasters damaged 2,200 hectares of paddy and vegetables, the GSO said.
Vietnam also reported 377 cases of fires and explosions from December 15 to January 14, which claimed the lives of eight people and injured eight others, causing an economic loss of VND11.7 billion, down 39.8% y/y.
Additionally, relevant agencies detected 3,794 environmental violations and handled 3,137 of them, with total fines of VND30 billion, up 12.1% y/y. (GSO)
