Finance Officer

Bread for the World (BftW) is a German non-government  organization. BftW works around the globe to contribute to an inclusive socio-economic development to overcome poverty. The key guiding principles are social justice and ecological responsibility.

The regional office (RO) for Vietnam and Laos based in Hanoi has cooperated with local and international partner organizations since 1996.

For our operations in Vietnam and Laos, we are looking for a Finance Officer based in Hanoi, with occasionally travel to project sites

Your main tasks:

  • Strengthen partner organizations’ accounting and finance capacities throughout the project cycle.
  • Support partner organizations in enhancing their Finance Management systems in areas of budgeting and budget monitoring including the funding ratio and exchange rate, financial/audit reports and financial statements, cash flow, and fund transfer.
  • Assess, finalize and submit detailed budgets presented by the partners ready for approvability to the authorizing committees.
  • Assist partner organizations in the preparation of the Cost and Finance Plan according to BfdW standard.
  • Together with Program Officers, assess, prepare and conduct all required reporting, including administrative and financial documents for:
    • Partners’ budget requests and fund transfers from the BftW Head Office
    • Audited/Financial reports of the project
  • Work with consultants to develop finance training materials and facilitate finance and audit workshops/trainings for partner organizations.
  • Monitor follow-up actions taken by partners to implement recommendations made by the auditors.
  • Plan and carry out project monitoring visits on financial issues.
  • Act as Cashier of the Office
  • Support the Regional Representative in all diverse areas upon request.

*The position is mainly responsible for BMZ-funded Partner organizations.

Your profile

  • A university degree (preferably a master’s) in a field of study central to the position (e.g. Finance, Accounting or Economics)
  • Proven professional working experience (8 to 10 years) in roles within national and/or international Non- Profit Organisations.
  • Solid understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles
  • Proficient in using various finance software like WINPACCS, database and Excel
  • Very good working knowledge in ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, internet research) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office).
  • Excellent mathematical skills.
  • A methodical thorough approach, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Working knowledge of all statutory legislation and regulations.
  • Familiarity with various international donor requirements, including those of the EU.
  • Good written and oral proficiency of formal English
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including adaptability to dynamic working environments, sound advisory and communication abilities, intercultural sensitivity, time and stress management, teamwork, and resilience.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an intercultural team.
  • Initiate to acquire additional knowledge and optimize internal processes.
