Vietnam Affirms Commitment to Supporting Persons with Disabilities: Official

Vietnam reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring equal rights and social integration for persons with disabilities, said Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Van Hoi.

The official presented during the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)’s review session in Geneva on March 6.

In his speech, Deputy Minister Hoi highlighted Vietnam’s policies supporting persons with disabilities, including economic and social development programs, disability assistance initiatives, and a national CRPD implementation plan. These measures ensure access to education, vocational training, employment, healthcare, housing, and social services.

He noted that Vietnam has standardized sign language and Braille nationwide, with nearly four million persons with disabilities in the workforce having received vocational training, job placement assistance, or preferential loans to promote economic inclusion.

Despite these advancements, Mr. Hoi acknowledged Vietnam’s challenges as a lower-income country, particularly in healthcare access, infrastructure development, and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.

He urged the UN and international organizations to provide financial and technical support to enhance Vietnam’s disability inclusion efforts. (Vietnam Plus, VOV)
