Background
About SNV Netherlands Development Organisation
SNV is a global development partner, deeply rooted in the countries where we operate. We are driven by a vision of a better world: A world where across every society all people live with dignity and have equitable opportunities to thrive sustainably.
To make this vision a reality, we need transformations in vital agri-food, energy, and water systems. SNV contributes by strengthening capacities and catalysing partnerships in these sectors. We help strengthen institutions and effective governance, reduce gender inequalities and barriers to social inclusion, and enable adaptation and mitigation to the climate and biodiversity crises.
Building on 60 years of experience we support our partners with our technical and process expertise and methodological rigor. We do this in more than 20 countries in Africa and Asia with a team of approximately 1,600 colleagues. By being adaptable and tailoring our approaches to these different contexts, we can contribute to impact at scale, resulting in more equitable lives for all.
SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995 and currently has over 70 national and international experts. SNV Vietnam implements projects in more than 50 provinces across the country, including the poorest and most remote areas.
About the Project
The SNV’s project aims at reviving degraded agricultural and forest land while improving smallholder farmer’s (SHFs) livelihoods through the market-driven promotion of agroforestry and forestry-based sustainable land management practices. The proposal project is also expected to sequester carbon dioxide and generate carbon credits; improve biodiversity as well as create green corridors in the landscape by intercropping and forest regeneration and enrichment models. SNV needs to seek and call for new investors/donors and finalise the project proposal/document.
SNV Vietnam is now seeking a dynamic and highly motivated consultant to utilize statistical modelling to create predictive models for two bankable carbon potential projects to finalise the project document and present to potential investors drawing from initial designs and feasibility done to date.
The Assignment
The consultant will be responsible for utilizing advanced biostatistical techniques to analyze and interpret carbon emissions/removal data, with a specific focus on biological and ecological aspects for two bankable carbon potential projects to finalize the project documents. The consultant will ensure the project document aligns with the requirements of the new donor/investor and the Vietnamese government.
Assignment Overview and Scope of Work/ Deliverables
Under the overall supervision of the Sector Leader, direct supervision by the Project Manager/Team Leader and in collaboration with the Agri-Food Team, the Consultant will perform the following tasks:
- Accounting carbon potentials of the proposed regeneration/agro-forestry/AFOLU projects, including carbon stock quantification by utilizing advanced biostatistical techniques to analyze and interpret carbon emissions/removal data, with a specific focus on biological and ecological aspects
- Develop predictive excel models and statistical tools to forecast future carbon emissions and/or growth, considering biological and ecological factors for forest/tree carbon
- Provide/forecast financial flows of the proposed carbon projects
- Advise optimum models for bankable tree planting and agro-forestry projects
- Contributions include but are not limited to landscape data and analysis for agroforestry and forestry models (tree numbers/density, species, forest types and locations etc).
Timeframe:
The assignment will be implemented from late June until July 2025, up to 10 working days.
