Non-Communicable Diseases Cause 84% of Deaths in Vietnam: Official

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have currently accounted for 84% of all deaths in Vietnam, Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan said at the 2024 Scientific Conference with the theme “Research and Application in Medicine,” local media reported.

At the event organized by the Vietnam Medical Association and the Ministry of Health in Hanoi on October 23, Deputy Minister Thuan emphasized Vietnam faces a dual burden of disease, having to address both emerging infectious diseases and the rise of NCDs such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and mental health disorders.

He noted that the Ministry of Health is implementing strategies to improve public health, including refining institutional frameworks, strengthening preventive healthcare systems, training high-quality medical personnel, and boosting international cooperation in scientific research.
