In recent years, over 75% of breast cancer patients have sought early and very early treatment at Vietnam’s National Ccaner Hospital (K Hospital), said Dr. Nguyen Ba Tinh, deputy director of the Tomorrow’s Bright Foundation.
Dr. Tinh announced the figure during the 2024 breast cancer patient forum “Modern Women, Fearless of Challenges,” in Hanoi on October 24. The event was part of the media campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer titled “Join Hands for the Women I Love,” organized by the Tomorrow’s Bright Foundation in collaboration with Roche Pharma Vietnam and other partners for breast cancer patients across the country.
Dr. Tinh noted that this year’s theme, “Modern Women, Fearless of Challenges,” includes in-person forums in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to provide accurate information about diagnosis and treatment while addressing patients’ questions during and after treatment. It also serves as an opportunity for patients and healthcare professionals to exchange experiences, share strength, and promote optimism in their battle against illness.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Vietnam and many countries worldwide. Cancer statistics from 2022 showed that Vietnam records 24,563 new breast cancer cases each year, accounting for 28.9% of all cancer cases in women.
Over the past 12 years, the program has helped millions access information about breast cancer and more than 72,000 high-risk women have received free breast cancer screenings.
