Australia Backs Plastic Waste Reduction Solutions in Vietnam

Australia, through its Indo-Pacific Plastic Innovation Network (IPPIN) led by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), aided Vietnamese businesses in developing solutions to plastic waste reduction, demonstrated during the Demo Day event in Ho Chi Minh City on November 1.

This initiative was part of Australia’s Mekong Plastic Innovation Alliance.

Demo Day featured innovative approaches like eco-friendly gift systems and turning coffee grounds into carbon-negative plastic, capping off 13 weeks of the IPPIN Accelerator Program focused on business development and sustainable plastic reduction strategies.

Australian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Sarah Hooper emphasized Australia’s commitment to supporting Vietnamese businesses in addressing plastic waste for a sustainable environment and economic future.

CSIRO Counselor Kim Wimbush highlighted that such efforts have gained momentum post-pandemic and stressed the importance of partnerships between leading businesses and educators.

The event showcased Vietnam’s growing capacity for impactful solutions, underlining CSIRO’s dedication to fostering sustainable methods for minimizing, reusing, and recycling plastics. (Dai Bieu Nhan Dan, Dan Tri, TBTCVN)
