Vietnam Loses $3.51B on Natural Disasters in Jan-Nov: GSO

Vietnam recorded an economic loss of nearly VND84.35 trillion ($3.51 billion) due to natural disasters in the first ten months of this year, up by 19.1 times y/y, according to the latest data from the General Statistics Office (GSO).

In the period, the natural disasters caused 541 deaths or missing persons, and injured 2,189 others; while damaging 407,000 hectares of paddy and veggies; nearly 5.3 million heads of poultry and cattle; and 299,100 houses, the GSO said.

In January-November, Vietnam logged 3,772 cases of fires and explosions, which claimed the lives of 96 people and injured 111 others, causing an economic loss of VND454.3 billion, up 11.2% y/y.

Besides, relevant agencies detected 20,260 environmental violations and handled 18,623 of them, with total fines of VND280.9 billion, up 6.1% y/y. (GSO)
