The Department of Health in Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi has sought approval from Hanoi authorities for a resolution to increase fines for food safety violations, local media reported.
Deputy Director of Hanoi’s Department of Health Vu Cao Cuong made the proposal at a recent social consultation meeting on the draft resolution.
Fines for food safety violations must be set at double the amounts outlined in existing regulations, aiming to deter offenders and promote a healthier business environment, he added.
Data from the Ministry of Health showed that Vietnam recorded 36 food poisoning incidents in the first half of this year, affecting 2,138 people and resulting in six fatalities. (Suc Khoe Doi Song, Health Ministry)
