Overview of HIV/AIDS epidemic: HIV/AIDS epidemic is one of the key public health challenges worldwide. HIV/AIDS has been spreading all over the nations in the world, and increasing ill-health burden and deaths in the least developed countries as well as among the most at risk populations (MARPs). The priorities of all governments currently are preventing the HIV outbreak and providing treatment and care for AIDS patients. In spite of significant achievements in term of prevention and treatment to date, there is a need to strongly and effectively sustain these efforts to respond to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
ESTHER (Ensemble pour une Solidarité Thérapeutique Hospitalière en Réseau) is a French public organization involved in capacity building in care and treatment for HIV/AIDS patients in 18 countries. ESTHER hs been working in Vietnam since 2002, through hospital twinning between Vietnamese and French hospitals. The interventions are dealing with various topics, including medical and psychosocial care for HIV/AIDS patients and IDUs, HIV/tuberculosis co infection, access to viral load. Currently, ESTHER is implementing projects in 3 sites (Hanoi, Haiphong, Ho Chi Minh City) in collaboration with national and provincial health authorities.
