Part A of the project focuses on measures and activities to strengthen the role and performance of the Viet Nam Urban Forum, including consulting assistance that would lead to the development of a long-term strategy and operational plan for Vietnam Urban Forum (VUF).
I.BACKGROUND In August 2011, the long-lasting low pressure conditions coupled with several tropical storms generated huge rains in South-East Asia. The monsoonal flooding across these countries was unusually severe, generating the worst floods in Southern Vietnam since 2000. The densely populated Mekong Delta provinces of An Giang, Dong Thap and Long An were the worst hit. The initial emergency response (which included relief operations conducted by the Vietnamese Red Cross in coordination with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent and the Participatory National societies present in country) provided support to the affected communities so they could meet their basic needs.
Good Neighbors is an international non-profit humanitarian organization that plans, implements,and raises funds for the provision of services in child education, community development, health, sanitation, and disaster relief project. Good Neighbors International (GNI) in Vietnam was established in 2005 and has implemented various projects on training, hunger alleviation and poverty reduction in Hanoi, Hoa Binh, Tuyen Quang and Thanh Hoa.
