400-Kg Bomb De-activated in Bac Kan Province

Authorities of Vietnam’s northern province of Bac Kan have de-activated a 400kg bomb in Duc Xuan ward. The bomb was believed to have been dropped when the U.S. Air force attacked northern Vietnam, the Quan doi Nhan dan newspaper reported on Jul 18. Vietnam estimates that 800,000 tons of unexploded ordnances have remained in the country so far, causing pollution of 2% of its land area excluding pollution areas at seas.
