8,000 Poor Women Get Free Medical Check-ups

About 8,000 women have been examined and treated for gynecological diseases free of charge this year under a medical program that targets poor women in remote areas, said Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong, deputy head of Ho Chi Minh City Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients. About 20 patients were diagnosed with breast cancer and 17 had uterus cancer out of the 100,000 women examined each year, Phuong added. The association also sent doctors to examine and treat gynecological diseases for poor women in 16 districts in HCM City and in the provinces of Ninh Thuan, Tay Ninh and Binh Phuoc.
