97 Vietnamese Workers in Japan Firm Suffer From Food Poisoning

As many as 97 workers of the Ho Chi Minh City-based Showa Vietnam Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Showa Co of Japan, suffered from food poisoning on June 9, the state-run Vietnam News Agency said June 10. The victims were hospitalized with symptoms of stomachache, vomiting and dizzy after having lunch at the firm’s canteen. Local health taskforces took the food sample for testing to find the poisoning cause, the agency added. Vietnam reported 20 food poisoning cases in May, killing ten people and affecting 704 others, the Ministry of Health said. Compared to April, the number of cases and affected people increased 185.7% and 951%, respectively.
