Action Aid International Pledges More Humanitarian Activities in Vietnam

The Action Aid International (AAI) has pledged to continue its humanitarian activities in Vietnam in the future, said AAI General Director Joanna Derobah Kerr. Joanna Derobah Kerr made the commitment at a meeting with Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan in Hanoi July 16, the state-run Vietnam News Agency said last July 23. Joanna appreciated Vietnam’s efforts in reducing poverty and hunger and raising the female role in the society. Addressing the meeting, Doan expressed her thanks for AAI’s assistance in sustainable development, poverty reduction and charitable operations in Vietnam, particularly in the northwestern and central provinces. Vietnam always supports and facilitates Action Aid International to operate effectively, Doan affirmed. Entered into Vietnam since 1989, the AAI has to date operated in more than 20 provinces, focusing on the fields of education, women’s rights, HIV/AIDS, governance and food rights. The Southeast Asian country targets to reduce the number of poor households to less than 9.5% this year, down from 11% in 2009.
