ADB to Fund $2.2M to Upgrade Tourism Infrastructure in Vietnam Province

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will finance $2.2 million to a plan worth $2.6 million to upgrade tourism infrastructure in Vietnam’s central province of Quang Binh in 2010. This is part of the bank-funded sub-Mekong tourism development project carried out in five localities in the 2009-2013 period, the Dau Tu newspaper reported, citing the provincial People’s Committee. Under the plan, roads to Phong Nha and Tien Son caves and tourism sites will be upgraded and database on the local and tourism will be built. Quang Binh has huge potential for tourism development with its well-known Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, a UNESCO recognized nature heritage site. The province aims to attract 1.2 million visitors in 2010, including 30,000 foreign visitors.
