Community Development Worker

The Swiss Red Cross (SRC) is working since the 1960th in Vietnam. In September and October 2009 the Typhoons Ketsana and Mirinae created extensive destruction. Following an appeal for support by the Vietnam National Red Cross (VNRC), the SRC engaged in relief operations. To support its work in more long term the SRC is opening a country office in Vietnam. In order to achieve their goals, the Swiss Red Cross will need with the upcoming livelihood program an additional Community Development Worker for the Country Office in Tuy Hoa, Phu Yen Province.

Duty Station: Tuy Hoa, Phu Yen Province
Salary: According to SRC Salary Scale

Qualifications:
- Degree in Social Work / Social Science or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 2 years working experience
- Languages: Vietnamese and English fluently (speaking and writing),
- German would be an additional asset
- Computer skills: MS Office Programs, Internet, etc.

General tasks:
- The Community Development Worker works with particular communities in order to collectively bring about social change and improve quality of life. They work with individuals, families or whole communities to empower them to:
- Identify needs, opportunities, rights and responsibilities
- Plan what they want to achieve, and take appropriate action
- Develop activities and services to improve their lives
- Report (Bi-weekly Reports, Monthly Reports, etc.) to the Country Representative
- Documentation (written, photo, etc.)
- Acting as facilitator to promote self-help in the community
- Cooperate with other SCR and VNRC staff, governmental offices and beneficiaries in all matters of the programs, establishing good relationship
- Providing leadership and coordination of programs
- Monitor and evaluate existing programs
- Overseeing the financial management of a limited budget
