First Book on Environmental Security Introduced in Vietnam

A book on environmental security for sustainable development, the first of its kind in Vietnam, has been introduced to readers as a publication to mark the World Environment Day (June 5). The book provides readers with new concepts and knowledge on the vital role of environment in sustainable development, and is also a valuable document for managers, scientists and students, who are interested in studying environmental security and sustainable development, said Prof. Dr. Pham Binh Quyen, general secretary of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE). The 300-page book has three parts and eight chapters, focusing on national and transnational conflicts relating to natural resources, security threats from natural disasters and environmental incidents. It also touches upon other environment-related issues such as cross-border environmental pollution, refugees and ecological upset. Challenges and legal foundations to solve conflicts on natural resources and environmental pollution are also mentioned in the book. The book was compiled by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hoe, from the environment department of Hanoi University of Natural Sciences, and Dr Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, VACNE President, and published by the Science-Technology Publishing House.
