Food Poisoning Kills 2 People in Phu Yen Province

Two people in Vietnam’s central province of Phu Yen’s Song Cau town died on Oct 13 on suspect of liver and eggs of puffer fish. The victims had a lunch with liver and eggs of puffer fish on the same day, the Lao Dong newspaper reported Oct 14. Local authorities are investing the cases to find cause of the victims’ deaths. The puffer fish has enough poison to kill up to 30 people, poison which is 1,000 times more powerful than cyanide. Vietnam also reported 109 food poisoning cases nationwide between Jan and Sept, affecting 4,100 people and killing 37 others, the General Statistics Office said. (Lao Dong – Labor Oct 14 p2)
