German SODI to Help Clear Bomb, Mine in Central Vietnam

Solidarity Service International (SODI), a German non-governmental organization, has pledged to help implement a EUR471,778 project on bomb and mine clearance and resettlement in Vietnam’s central province of Quang Tri. Local authorities and the organization Mar 8 signed a cooperative agreement on the project that is slated for implementation between 2010 and 2011, the baoquangtri online newspaper said March 10. Covering on a site of 101 hectares, the project will be carried out in Hai Thuong communes in Hai Lang district, aiming to use land for agriculture production, resettlement and school construction. The province pledged to cooperate with the organization to implement the SODI’s projects effectively, local official said. The SODI has to date implemented many projects in Vietnam, focusing on mine clearance, vocational training, and supporting AO and landmine victims as well as disabled people in Nghe An, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue provinces.
