Hanoi to Spend $23.56M to Reduce Pollution in Craft Villages by 2015

Authorities of Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi will spend VND450 billion ($23.56 million) to implement a project to reduce environment pollution in craft villages from now up to 2015. The project will help treat waste and provide clean water for 30 craft villages in the city, the An Ninh Thu Do newspaper reported March 3, citing the department of natural resources and environment. Local authorities plan to pilot the project with a daily capacity of 200-300 cubic meters in a craft village in Quoc Oai township, the department said. Currently, 1,270 craft villages are employing one million workers in Hanoi.
In 2009, the craft village earned a combined revenue of VND7 trillion ($366.5 million), accounting 10% of the city’s total from the industry.
