Hanoi to Spend $842,100 to Improve Food Safety in 2010

Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi will spend over VND16 billion ($842,100) on four improvement projects of food safety and hygiene this year, the An Ninh Thu Do newspaper reported. The projects are aimed to raise the public awareness of food safety, capabilities of authorized agencies in managing and testing the quality of foodstuff particularly street food. Vietnam witnessed 147 food poisoning cases in 2009, affecting 5,026 people and killing 33 others.
