Hanoi to Spend VND57.3B to Help the Poor by 2012

Authorities in Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi has approved a VND57.3 billion ($3.2 million) project to give instructions on agricultural and fisheries expansion production for poor and nearly-poor families in seven communes in Soc Son District. The project, which will be implemented until 2012, will transfer effective agricultural production models to poor families, and help them apply advanced science and technology into their production. The project will assist 4,507 poor and nearly-poor families in expanding agricultural production and the breeding of pigs, cows, and fish; organized 30 vocational training courses for 750 poor trainees; and open 342 scientific and technological training courses for 17,100 people. Some 4,200 poor and nearly-poor families will have a chance to be assisted with production loans for a period of two years.
