HCM City to Hold Waste Recycling Festival in April

Ho Chi Minh City Waste Recycling Fund under the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment will hold a waste recycling festival 2010 in Le Van Tam Park on April 4. The fund will organize three contests of orators, fashion design and video clips on environmental protection activities and the event is aimed at raising the public awareness of ways to reduce and recycle waste, the Phap Luat Thanh Pho Ho Chi Minh newspaper reported, citing the department. In May last year 3,000 locals took part in the festival, the Voice of Vietnam Radio said. HCM City discharges 6,400 tons of waste a day. This volume is estimated to increase to 7,600 tons of waste each day by 2010 and 16,400 tons a day by 2020.
