What is the purpose of the HCMC INGO Discussion Group?

The INGO Discussion Group (formerly the INGO Child Discussion Group) provides a forum for the sharing of information, knowledge and experience. Its aim is to act as an entry point for more concrete forms of coordination or collaboration in areas such as research, training, as well as advocacy and policy dialogue.
The INGO Discussion Group meets on a regular quarterly basis at the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO).

Who can participate?

The INGO Discussion Group brings together representatives and staff from foreign non-governmental organisations that have an office and are operating in Ho Chi Minh City or in the southern provinces. Occasionally, they are joined by speakers and guests from government agencies, donors and partner organisations.

What theme is the HCMC INGO Discussion Group taking up?

The themes are determined by a core group of INGOs which is currently composed of Terre des hommes Foundation – Lausanne, Saigon Children Charity, Education for Development, Loreto Viet Nam – Australia Program and Viet Nam Plus.  They ensure the coordination and facilitation of the meetings.
Participation in the core team depends on willingness to stand for at least one year and to contribute actively to the planning of the activities of the HCMC INGO Discussion Group.

In between meetings of the group, the core group decides on a topic to discuss. Suggestions by members are most welcome.

Thematic Working Groups

In 2008 the HCMC INGO Discussion Group, recognising the importance of improved communication and coordination between INGOs, organisations and associations working in HCM City, established four thematic working groups under its umbrella.
These groups provide valuable resources for the sharing of information, ideas and experiences within the development community in the south of Vietnam.

In accordance with the VUFO-INGO Resource Centre working group guidelines, these groups welcome attendance from anyone with an interest in this theme. The meeting is open to representatives and relevant staff of INGOs, organisations, associations, international and bilateral donor agencies, as well as representatives of government institutions.
