Hundreds of Hectares of Forest in North Vietnam Destroyed by Fires

Fire has burned hundreds of hectares of forest in Vietnam’s northern province of Lao Cai on Feb 8, the Quan doi nhan dan newspaper reported Feb. 11. In Sapa district, which is famous for Vietnamese and foreign tourists, the fire is caused by dry weather and strong wind, destroying valuable forest despite great efforts from local authorities, people and even regional military forces. The Vietnamese air forces plan to use helicopters to stop the fire today if weather conditions allow, official said.
