IPCC Holds Int’l Seminar on Climate Change in Vietnam

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) held an international seminar in Hanoi Mar. 22 to discuss measures to mitigate risks of natural disasters and climate change. Nearly 100 leading environmentalists from 25 countries took part in the seminar, the first of its kind in Vietnam, state media reported Mar. 23. Addressing the event, Deputy Minister and Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thien Nhan said that Vietnam is listed among five countries that will be hardest hit by climate change worldwide. Assuming the presidency of ASEAN bloc this year, which is regarded as the most vulnerable to climate change, Vietnam has put this issue as top priority in its agenda and initiated the founding of the East Asia Forum on Climate Change, Nhan added. Established in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Environment Program, the IPCC now has 194 member countries.
